Dog walking in Lauder

Lauder is the northern end of our round, and the countryside opens out the moment you leave the high street. The Southern Upland Way passes straight through the town, Lauder Common climbs out behind it, and we cover the villages around it to roughly 15 miles.

Where we walk in Lauder

Routes chosen for the dog and the day, not just whatever is nearest the van.

Thirlestane Castle grounds

Parkland and riverside paths along the Leader Water a few minutes from the town centre. Flat, sheltered and a reliable choice in wet weather.

Lauder Common

Open hill ground above the town with big skies and long sight lines — ideal for adventure walks with dogs whose recall we have tested.

Well-marked, well-surfaced walking in either direction out of town. Our go-to for long out-and-back solo walks.

Lauderdale lanes and villages

Quiet lanes around Oxton, Blainslie and Stow for puppy visits and short walks well away from traffic.

Streets and areas we cover

Oxton, Blainslie, Stow, Fountainhall, Gordon, Westruther and anywhere within about 15 miles of Lauder — and anywhere else in Lauder within a sensible drive of the round.
